CEDA EL PASO

La ciudad como espacio universal de trauma, amor y muerte. La ciudad es el ser que nos cobija a todos. Nos ampara y resguarda. Nos mima o nos maltrata, mas nunca es indiferente. El ser humano necesitó a la ciudad para civilizarse. Ese fue el punto de inflexión. La ciudad es la colmena en donde nacemos, vivimos... morimos irremediablemente. La ciudad es de todos y, en todas parte, es esencialmente la misma.

Retratar el alma de una ciudad, sea cubana o estadounidense, es el propósito (uno de muchos) de “CEDA EL PASO”. El afán aglutinador de nuestro Proyecto para el Intercambio Cultural Cuba-Estados Unidos “Bridges Not Walls” pervierte las fronteras geofísicas y mentales. Nos interesa fomentar el vínculo cultural entre los dos pueblos y hablar el idioma común: el lenguaje sublime del arte.

Por ello, apostamos por el poder evocador del lenguaje artístico -en este caso, de la fotografía- para hacer confluir doce obras fotográficas donde la energía vital de la urbe es el catalizador común.

Seis artistas de varias regiones de Estados Unidos y seis artistas cubanos protagonizan la exhibición que recoge el alma y la vibra de sus ciudades. Alain, Kako, Izuki, Daniella, el Mene, May, Kay, Adria, Brad, Tina, Lee, Luis y nuestro invitado especial Zenit Tattoo/La Banda (Ana Lyem Lara, Alberto Ferrer y Osbel Sanabria)resumen en sus impactantes imágenes el sentir del “ciudadano” (el que habita la ciudad) y su contexto.

La ternura y tristeza que confluyen en las piezas son -en efecto- reflejo actual del espacio poblado, ya sea La Habana, Matanzas, Cincinnati, Seattle... los seres humanos son iguales en todas partes del mundo.

The city is the universal space of trauma, love and death. The city is the being that shelters us all. It protects us. It spoils us or mistreats us, but it is never indifferent. The human being needed the city to be civilized. That was the point of no return. The city is the hive where we are born, we live ... and we die irremediably. The city belongs to everyone and, everywhere, it is essentially the same.

Portraying the soul of a city, be it Cuban or American, is the purpose (one of many) of "CEDA EL PASO". The unifying desire of our Cuban-American Cultural Exchange Project "Bridges Not Walls" perverts the geophysical and mental borders.
We are interested in fostering the cultural bond between the two peoples and speaking the common language: the sublime language of art.

Therefore, we bet on the evocative power of the artistic language -in this case, of photography- to bring together twelve photographic works where the vital energy of the city is the common catalyst.

Six artists from various regions of the United States and six Cuban artists star in the exhibition that captures the soul and vibes of its cities. Alain, Kako, Izuki, Daniella, Mene, May, Kay, Adria, Brad, Tina, Lee, Luis and our special guest Zenit Tattoo/La Banda (Ana Lyem Lara, Alberto Ferrer and Osbel Sanabria)summarize in their impressive images the feeling of the "citizen" (the one who inhabits the city) and its context.

The tenderness and sadness that come together in the pieces are -in fact- the current reflection of the populated space, be it Havana, Matanzas, Cincinnati, Seattle... human beings are the same everywhere in the world.
